I was introduced to Thankful Thimble through my Aunt Patti. For my birthday, she kindly sent me a beautiful pair of mittens made out of recycled wool sweaters. Aunt Patti told me they were made by her friend, Sharon, and that they were the warmest mittens she had ever owned.
As soon as I opened the package I fell in love with the quality and the beautiful patterns. But when I wore them outside for the first time on a bitter cold day, I was hooked! They truly are the warmest mittens I have ever owned!
It also seems timely that I am advertising wool mittens just as Mr. Bernie Sanders and his mittens have taken the world by storm! Bernie knows where it’s at when it comes to keeping warm, and I think he’d be thrilled with a pair of mittens made by Thankful Thimble!
Sharon started her sewing journey as a kid in 4-H. She fell in love with sewing and developed a love for teaching others. Sharon teaches various courses throughout the year and helps members of the community with any of their sewing projects. In one such teaching venture, she organized a community project to sew mittens for local 4-H kids. After seeing the interest in the project, she realized that making mittens could become more than just a craft.
She worked tirelessly on perfecting a mitten design that she would be proud to wear herself and would be durable for years to come. She brought in her daughters to help with the project and they quickly developed a business!
Sharon said, “Thankful Thimble isn't just a business or even a hobby - it's a lifestyle and philosophy that we live by.” She is grateful for the blessings God has given her and the opportunity she has to not only follow her passions, but work alongside her family.
“This gratitude is what inspired our company's name, and we hope that our story inspires countless families to come together around a shared love.” – Sharon
One of the things I love most about Thankful Thimble is their use of recycled sweaters found in thrift stores. They turn something no longer wanted into a new beautiful work of art! On their site, you can find a sizing guide to ensure you choose the proper fit. And they not only sell mittens but also scarves and baby hats made out of recycled cashmere! You can find all of their gorgeous pieces here.
I hope you found some inspiration in these 3 beautiful stories! As I worked on this series, I began to see the common theme of how love inspired each journey to fulfill a passion or gift, and I was completely blown away! From embracing self care to cope with mental health issues to finding a way for a husband and wife to have more quality time together to a mother working side by side with her children, LOVE fueled these artists to create. And I am so thankful that we all get to benefit from it!
Thank you, Little Hemming Bird, Menkis Works, and Thankful Thimble for allowing me to share your stories and your beautiful work!
