We're giving Jackson's playroom a more grown up look with a few budget friendly changes! If you missed our initial design decisions you can read all about that here!

After I had a rough plan, the first thing to do was to remove everything from the room, deep clean, and purge what was no longer wanted or needed. I separated toys into: items to keep, broken toys to throw away, and things to sell or donate.

The only furniture I really intended to move were the storage unit from the closet and, of course, the train table. The Ikea storage unit is actually 2 pieces stacked together so I chose to keep this piece because I could uniformly use storage bins to contain and conceal toys. It fits perfectly under our large front window without blocking any of the light. It's also much narrower than the train table, so we now have much more floor space! When Jackson has outgrown his play kitchen and the fire station my dad also built, I will add some seating that can be moved forward for gaming. Simply moving everything out of the closet completely transformed the space! It instantly felt more open and brighter.

The next item I wanted to decide upon was the rug. The wall color is fairly neutral, so I knew that a lot of my design choices would depend on the rug. As soon as I saw this rug, I fell in love, and the low price sealed the deal! I love that the colors are playful without giving off a childish vibe.

For the accent wall, I chose to go with peel and stick wallpaper to add some sophisticated whimsy to the room. This was my first experience with the Tempaper brand, and I was impressed with the quality. While I didn't film an entire peel and stick wallpaper tutorial, I have some great tips for you, which you can find here!

I LOVE how this wall turned out! The print just pops with our charcoal sofa! I rehung a few pieces of art that we genuinely love - Jackson's first piece of art, which you can find the tutorial for here. My grandmother's old Parcheesi board that I had framed, a photo I snapped in Venice, Italy of the cutest little house I've ever seen, and my "keep it poppin" art I found at Home Goods years ago.

We've had this old coffee table in our attic for years. It is a curvy slab of wood filled with knots that originally sat in my grandparents' basement. I plan to repaint it once the weather warms up and we are able to use our paint sprayer. It's large enough to play a family board game or use as an art station. And it's a great table during pizza movie nights! I haven't nailed down a color yet. What color would YOU paint it???

We already had the end table and gold reading light. A few plants and pillows help to make the space feel homey. Up to this this point, my only purchases have been:

Next week I'm going to share our entire tutorial for the Lego closet. But for now, I can't leave you hanging without a little peak at the finished space!!!I'll share all the details on how we did it, and where to shop the look next time! What do you think??? Do you love it as much as we do? If you love it, share it! And don't forget to subscribe to keep up to date on all of my projects!

xoxo, L
