5 Classic Home Staples Every Home Needs

Right now on Instagram I'm talking about decluttering and organization in a series called THE LEGENDARY LIGHTEN UP! This was a follower requested topic and I am SO excited to get the conversation started on how to let go of things we don't need. For me personally, the hardest category in my home for me to declutter is home décor. I love to swap out pieces often, create new floral arrangements and style my home for the different seasons. PLUS with all of the thrifting I do, I am fully aware I have WAY too much home décor.

A common question I received from my followers is, "how do I know what to keep?" I thought it would be helpful to come up with a basic list of key, classic home décor pieces every home should have. These pieces are versatile through the seasons, are multi functional, and can be tailored to any home style. Have you heard of a capsule wardrobe? This is a décor capsule!

Candle sticks

Choose whatever style you like, but keep it CLASSIC! I am constantly moving my vintage brass candle sticks from room to room for centerpieces, shelf styling, and for holidays. I keep basic ivory tapers on hand and have thrifted a few sets in fun colors so I can swap out the candle but keep the same holders year round. Here's a small collection of class and affordable candle holders that would look lovely in any space!

Pottery or Vase

I have a few staple ceramic pieces that I can use for flowers or just display on their own on a shelf. I even display winter greenery in them at Christmas time! Don't have a water tight vessel? Place a drinking glass inside your pottery and add your florals to that! Pick a piece or two in neutral tones or materials that will compliment your home year round and look good on their own or staged in a collection.

Large Basket

Whether you use it for toy storage, layer from throw blankets, or add a plant. A large basket looks great in any space with any style!

Tray

From entertaining to coffee table styling to a centerpiece, a classic wood or metal tray can be used year round ALL over your home! Just make sure you choose a food safe one if you're using it for entertaining! I have even propped up a few of my antique trays on our peg rail shelves with art!

Picture Frames

Whether you're displaying family photos or seasonal artwork, investing in some quality wall or shelf frames gives you classic décor that can be added to any arrangement in any room.
