The easiest way to Update Furniture

One of the most affordable and sustainable ways to update your home is to reinvent or makeover what you already own. For us, we own a lot of antique furniture that was handed down to us by both of our families. Sometimes we are completely in love with a piece and other times we take it because we don't want family heirlooms to be discarded, but it's not really our style.

Wood furniture can be updated with paint or stripped and refinished. (I'll be talking all about those options next week, stay tuned!) But you may never have considered something as simple as swapping out the legs of the furniture piece you'd like to update. We have actually done this numerous times with our furniture for different reasons. But every time it's been a really affordable option, and I'm hoping to give you some inspiration if you have a piece of furniture that has seen better days.

We recently made over our entire finished basement and a new sectional sofa was not in our budget. I decided to try to makeover the 13 year old sofa and love seat we already own and give it some new life and style in our beautiful new family room. I wanted to swap out the clunky dark legs for something with a more elegant vintage vibe.

I was surprised at how many options there were to choose from and how affordable they were! I found these gorgeous turned legs on Amazon for $30 for a set of 4! They were easy to install and immediately gave our sofas new life and personality. Now I want to swap out all of our sofa legs!

Over the winter, I refinished an old bench from my family that has a really remarkable story. You can read about it here! I wanted to honor the raw wood top but really did not love the legs of the bench. For a more modern style, I found these U shaded metal legs, again on Amazon. and you wouldn't even know it was the same table!

Similarly, we attached antique wood farmhouse legs from my family to an old wooden dining table top from my husband's family. Other than the cost of hardware and wood to attach the two together, we didn't pay a penny to customize the table of my dreams!

I wanted to make over this $20 storage bench I found on Facebook Marketplace, but wanted to give it a little height for aesthetics. This adorable bun feet raised the bench to a comfortable height and made this bench look so much more expensive!
