How I saved Money on Our New Light Fixture

I recently swapped out our dining room light because our old chandelier clashed with our antique wall candelabra. I wanted the candelabra - my $25 Facebook Marketplace find and most asked about thing in our home - to be the star of the room. The chandelier blocked the view and was too similar in tone - so I opted for a low profile, flush mount light fixture instead.

I landed on this understated and elegant drum shade light in a brushed gold tone, but when I went to purchase I found that it was no longer in stock - ANYWHERE! The bright chrome version was still available and about $20 cheaper than the price of the brass one, so I decided to perform a little makeover.

This tip is great if and when you find yourself in this type of dilemma and it was a super easy DIY to change the chrome fixture into the one I really wanted. Here's how I did it!

I used Rustoleum bright coat metallic finish in gold and sprayed all of the chrome accents of the light fixture. THAT'S IT! I saved $20 minus the cost of half a can of spray paint and I have the light I really wanted!

The gold/brass tone compliments the other gold accents in our dining room and it a perfect supporting actress to our show stopping candelabra! Since then, the gold version of this light fixture has come back in stock, but it's still $20 more than it's counterpart! The moral of the story is to always try to think outside the box when purchasing something for you home. You might surprise yourself with how you can save a little money!
