Heirloom Jewelry Display

I have some beautiful pins and pendants from both grandmothers and for took long they sat in a box in a drawer where no one could see or appreciate them. I decided to make my own easy display frame so that I could honor both of these important women and keep them with me in my office. Here's how I made it!

What you need

  • frame with the glass removed

  • the backing of the frame or sturdy mat/cardboard

  • fabric of your choice

  • batting or thin foam

  • scissors

  • hot glue gun

  • straight pins

How to make it

My aunt gave me this thrifted metal frame and I first gave it a coat of flat black paint and then used rub n buff to create an antique gold look. You choose if you want to alter the color of your frame or not!

Cut your batting to the exact size of your backing. This process will be just like upholstering a chair or bench! Cut your fabric to the size of your backing PLUS about an extra inch on all sides. I used a scrap of upholstery fabric and and thing batting from an old Halloween costume so this was completely free!

Lay your fabric right side down on a flat surface. Lay down your batting in the center of the fabric with your board/mat on top. Add a line of hot glue to one edge of your board and gently pull your fabric up over the edge of your board and press into the glue. Continue this process by continuing on the OPPOSITE SIDE of where you just glued and then proceed with the other 2 edges.

Add your "upholstered" backing to your frame and secure either with the given hooks, with glue, or strong tape.

I pinned my pins to the fabric directly and used old straight pins to hang the pendants.

I hope you find some inspiration here to display some special heirloom pieces or even just store your every day jewelry!

xoxo, L
